Cat Island, Bahamas

Unspoiled…lush, eight miles of pink sands, imagine, not having to imagine at all, but simply to visit. This  boot-shaped, untamed island, naturally is one of the most beautiful of The Bahamas. Sought as a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of civilization, the highest peak in The Bahamas, the Hermitage perched atop 206ft Mt. Alvernia, offers such an opportunity some consider to be ideal for meditation.

The Bahamas owes much of its indigenous music and folklore to this island, whose rich cultural heritage can still be seen amidst overgrown vine-covered remnants, and abandoned mansions, Arawak Indian caves, and crumbling ruins of slave communities. Cat Island prospered in the 1700s thriving from cotton plantations in its time.

Beachcombers, divers, snorkelers, and fishing aficionados today, come from far and wide to experience the solace to be found on this tranquil island.
